Choosing a Perfect Pool Style
Designer Tips
When it comes to picking out the perfect pool for you and your family, there is no one size fits all. Your new outdoor oasis with a swimming pool will become not only the perfect place to swim or spend time in cool water during hot days, but also an incredible outdoor setting where you can relax and enjoy the moment.
The first pool design decision to make is whether the backyard should have a rectangular or freeform swimming pool. When deciding on that a few items should be considered:
- The shape of your backyard – is it rectangular or does it have different angles?
- Does your backyard slope up or down, or is it flat?
- Do you want a more natural lagune type experience or modern and simple lines?
- Do you want to swim laps, play games, or just float and have fun?
After you decide on the shape of the pool and style, consider adding a spa. It’s always more cost effective to add a spa when you’re building a new pool rather than adding it later.
Consider Adding a Spa
After you decide on the shape of the pool and style, consider adding a spa. It’s always more cost effective to add a spa when you’re building a new pool rather than adding it later.
The most popular spa designs are spas that are raised and spas that are on the same level as the pool. A pool spa is usually raised 16 to 24 inches to create a water feature spillway. It’s especially beautiful if the pool is positioned in such a way where you can see the water feature from your house or other outdoor living spaces such as dinning area or outdoor fire pit. The sound of running water is very relaxing and entertaining.
A pool spa can also sit inside the pool for a sleek modern look. The pool looks larger and you’re sitting next to the water when you’re inside the spa, looking out into the glossy mirror of water.
Accents and Details for Luxurious Spa Feel
Baja shelf is a fun and inexpensive design option that adds fun and function to the experience of entering a swimming pool. Usually about 12” below the tile, it’s a shallow, loungey area to enjoy. Children love splashing around in it and adults who aren’t interested in swimming but want to relax and cool off, can lounge on the Baja shelf. Add a bubbler with an LED light in the Baja shelf and it turns into a fun and vibrant accent for day or evening to enjoy.
A swimming pool beach entry is another delightful way to transition from shore to the water of your pool. Normally a beach entry is finished with natural stone to provide a transition between the pool plaster or pebble, which needs to always be in water, to your paver or concrete pool deck. It’s a subtle way to enter a pool and lounge at the entrance without getting in the water completely.
Adding fun water features and fountains adds more interest to the pool and makes the large body of water become part of the garden when you’re not using it. Sheer descents and varieties of water spouts add elegance and playfulness to the swimming pool. You don’t have to always be swimming in the pool to enjoy it. The mere presence of a large body of water is a delight to enjoy inside our outside the house.
