Grevillea ‘Poorinda Golden Lyre’

The spring is in the air and pants are starting to bloom! Now is the perfect time to start planting for next season.

Many homeowners want a garden that’s a delight to look at year-round, especially in the winter. Today we want to talk about one plant that can bring you joy year around.

If you’re looking for some flowers to spice up your winter garden look no further than Grevillea (‘Golden Lyre’).

Grevillea is an evergreen and blooms beautiful, fluffy, yellow bottlebrush-like flowers all year long including in the winter.

It’s wispy with lots of playful movement and can be trimmed as a tree (in this photo) or a hedge like shrub.

Grevillea Golden Lyre is an exotic looking plant that has you stop and look at it in more detail.  It attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees, and is a delight to have in your front yard or back yard garden.

Grevillea is native to Australia and it does great in Southern California dry Mediterranean climate.  The shrub likes direct sun light and well-drained soil.  It’s low maintenance (phew).

The shrub is fast growing and can reach 3-4 feet in height and 3-5 feet in width.

The best time to plant Grevillea is fall in the typical four-season climate, but it doesn’t matter as much in Southern California climate – just make sure to give it plenty of water first six months and your beautiful Golden Lyre will not disappoint you!
